Dr Marina Alves Ferreira
Veterinarian
My first memory of Veterinary Science was when my childhood dog was diagnosed with “Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis” (bloody diarrhoea). Fortunately thanks to the quick diagnosis and excellent treatment by her veterinarian, she overcame this potentially dangerous disease. The ability to diagnose, treat and return a healthy pet to their loving family fascinated me.
The desire to work with animals lead me to a path where I obtained a Zoology degree followed by a Master’s Degree in Elephant Conservation Genetics. However, the ability to heal animals was always my calling and I completed my Veterinary Degree at the Faculty of Veterinary Science (Onderstepoort) at the University of Pretoria in 2008.
My veterinary career started in Johannesburg, and I have worked in many Veterinary Hospitals and Veterinary Clinics in the greater Randburg area (including several in Northcliff). My desire to make a difference and heal patients allowed me to work in two large Animal Welfare Hospitals where my passion for the welfare of my patients grew from strength to strength.
Paws Vet Care Consulting & Mobile Services was started out of my aspiration to provide veterinary care for many pets at home without the stress of going into a veterinary clinic as well as to make that special connection with my clients.
I am passionate about my family too! I share my home with my husband, Frank, my sons, Matthew and Andrew, and my dogs Aragon (a chilled German Shepherd) and Sparky (our adopted Fox Terrier cross), as well as Kerryn (our rescued Love bird).
